QD Bushing Guide From Leading Manufacturer
08 Dec, 2020

Here is a QD Bushing Guide from one of the lead manufacturers. This guide covers updated info about the installation and removal process of QD Bushing.

When we enter the pulley world, the word ‘bushing’ seems like the most used phrase. In order to keep the pulley functional and continue the work in a smooth flow, there is no better alternative than using a bushing. Sometimes we call bushing as bearing. Without any doubt, the bushing is a type of bearing. But the term ‘bearing’ is too general and it refers to the motion between two components.

Bushings are mainly specific pieces of equipment. We use bushings when it comes to keeping rotating machinery functional. The bushing also helps in improving efficiency and reducing vibration and noise. When it comes to mining and other industrial operations, we can see a lot of rotating machines are there. And as a result, we see the use of bushing.

Without any doubt, bushing helps a lot in the pulley and other rotating machinery systems. But the level of help completely depends on the installation. I mean if you have properly installed the bushings, you are going to enjoy the best benefits. But if there is a minor fault in installation or fitting, it can lead you towards accidents, expensive repair, and replacement. So, while installing the bushing, you need to be a bit more careful and only let expert and professional persons to install it.

Among a lot of bushing types, Quick Detachable bushings are popular. They are easy to work with and require very little time for the proper installation. Today, as a leading manufacturer, we are going to share a detailed installation guide. This may not be an absolute guide but will definitely help you in understanding the basic things.

How to install QD Bushings?

According to experts, QD bushings are very easy to install as well as remove whenever it requires. Generally, these bushings are divided via flange and taper. It is divided in this unique way so that it can provide a thru champ on the shaft. And it will be equivalent to shrink fit.

Generally, all the sizes come with a set screw over the key in order to maintain the right bushing position on the shaft until we securely tighten the cap screws.

QD Bushing Installation:

1- Before starting the installation, you need to be sure that the taper cone surfaces of the bushing and the inner side of the sprocket are clean properly.

2- Now you need to place the bushing in sprocket, sheave, pulley, or other QD parts. Here, you need to take care of another part and that is the mating part and the bushing should be properly assembled. In this way, in the mating part, you will be able to keep the two threaded holes located as far as possible from the saw cut in the bushing.

3- After that, you need to place cap screws and lock washers loosely in the pull-up holes. In order to assure the sliding fit on the shaft, the bushing should be properly expanded.

4- In this step, you should ensure that with the key on the shaft, the slide sprocket is placed in the perfect position on the shaft. The heads of the used cap screws should be outside.

5- Now, you should align the sprocket. In order to make it possible, you have to tighten the screws alternatively and progressively until you can pull them upright. When it comes to increasing the leverage, you should use a wrench or length of the pipe. Here, you need to take care of another fact and that is the sprocket should not be drawn in contact with the flange of the bushing. There you should maintain the gap your manufacturer has advised.

Bushing Installation Torque:

When it comes to increasing leverage while tightening bushing screws, we use a wrench or length of the pipe. But it can be a bit risky if you miss following the suggested measurements. Following everything properly is important in mounting the bushing. Generally, the tightening force of the screw is multiplied by the wedging action of the tapered surface. This action mainly compresses the bushing for a snug fit on the shaft. You should tighten the bushing screws always alternatively and progressively.

Caution:

  • You need to ensure that the cone surfaces that you are going to use are completely clean and free of grease, paint, and dirt.
  • You need to tighten pull-up bolts alternatively as well as evenly according to the torque table.
  • You should never fill the gap between sheave or sprocket and flange of Quick Detachable bushings.

Warning: If we use an anti-seize lubricant on tapered cone surfaces, it may result in damage to sheaves and sprockets as well as void all warranties within blinks.

How to remove Quick Detachable bushings?

Now it comes to how to remove Quick Detachable bushings without putting much effort. The removal process is really easy. All you need to do is just follow the below steps one by one-

1- First of all, you need to loosen the cap screws and remove accordingly

2- Now you need to insert the cap screws in tapered removal holes

3- In the third step, you need to tighten the inserted screws until you can make the sprocket lose on the shaft

4- Now you need to remove the sprocket, pulley, and sheave from the shaft

Just by following these steps, you will be able to remove Quick Detachable bushings easily. But while mounting screws, you should put pressure by hand only.
