The technology is quite modern these days, as the timing belts are applied in the engine for a longer time. Although, its cost is minimal and noise, not that expected but it needs to be changed regularly. However, the belts need to be changed within 50,000 to 100,000 kilometers.

A timing belt is used to transfer power from one shaft to another. It also synchronizes motions between crankshaft and camshaft in automobiles. The name is exactly as it’s used, the timing belt opens and closes the engine valves on time.

What is a Timing belt?

A toothed belt that is prepared for matching motions between one shaft to another is a timing belt. The belt’s outside side is flat, but the inner side features numerous teeth that resemble gear teeth.

The timing belt pulley matches the valve openings and closing motions on the crankshaft position. Rather than crankshaft, the camshaft rotates at half the speed of a four-cylinder engine camshaft. For every one revolution of the camshaft, there will be two revolutions of the crankshaft.

Similar kinds of teeth are available with a Timing belt pulley, to get engaged with a belt. Its power can be transferred to a longer distance and is similar to a gear drive. Certain automobiles use a timing belt pulley to drive other parts like oil pumps, water pumps, injection pumps, etc.

How Timing Belt Pulley Works in Textile Industries

Timing belts are quitter than timing chains

The timing belt is manufactured by high tension fibers and resistant material like Highly Saturated Nitrile (HIS). However, as it’s made of rubber, it can face the worst circumstances; like extreme heating of the engine.

Timing belts are settled outside the engine and can be dried out and cracked while timing chains are stored within the engine and receive lubrication from engine oil.

It has fewer slippage issues

Misalignment is the root cause for the slippage of a timing belt. Due to the proper mechanism of a driver and a driven pulley, Timing belts have fewer slippage issues.

Velocity ration is persistent

Just like gear drive, the velocity ratio in the driver as well as in the driven pulley is decided by the ratio of teeth.

The velocity ratio of a single moveable pulley is:

= Distance traveled by the effort

FDistance traveled by the load L=2XX=2.

It is low on maintenance and production

Timing belts cost hardly $300-$500. As it is made up of excellent quality, it is hard to change. Due to highly resistant rubber, it stays quiet and lasts for 100,000 miles.
